Guest Lecture and Workshop with French Cartoonist and Animation Director Aurel

September 29, 2022. We welcomed a stimulating guest lecture and workshop with French cartoonist and animation director Aurel (whose movie Josep won the 2021 César Award for Best Animated Film), discussing animation/comics medium specificities, graphic non-fiction composition and science popularization through comics (with the in-depth analysis of a wonderful sequence in Aurel’s Singes) with Thai and Myanmar students. Four Creative Workshops (2022)

During the second semester of the 2021-22 academic year, we welcomed spearheading Thai artists Peeraphat KittisuwatFaan PeetiSuperfah Jellyfish and Isaree Pipatpongsa who held workshops in three different courses, with the goal of introducing our Thai and exchange students at the Faculty of Communication Arts (Chulalongkorn University) to new graphic and narrative techniques in order to develop their visual literacy & composition skills in preparation of their final creative projects. Polyptych Workshop in Taiwan (Sept 2019)

Guest Talk with khun Nana Wipaphan Wongsawang, founder of the Thai Consent platform

February 11, 2020. Guest Talk with khun Nana Wipaphan Wongsawang, founder of the Thai Consent platform which aims at providing [testimonial and illustrated] references for victims of sexual abuse who need useful materials to understand themselves better. An inspiring & challenging talk on the critical issues of sexual abuse, rape culture, consent and representation. Traumics on these issues will be produced soon. More info on the dedicated post.


Parallel Comics Open Studios led by Belgian cartoonist Ephameron and American cartoonist Anders Nilsen, with students in Communication Design, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. (May 2018)

On May 14-17 2018, some 40 students at the International Program in Communication Design (CommDe, Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand) attended in two groups to 4-day parallel “Open Studios” led by Belgian cartoonist and illustrator Ephameron (aka Eva Cardon) and American cartoonist and illustrator Anders Nilsen. Ephameron focused on capturing the essence of a short story and its breakdown and visual adaptation in comics form while Anders Nilsen explored “non-standard” panel layouts and constrained comics exercises (inspired by OuBaPian experiments from the Pierre Feuille Ciseaux international comics residency-laboratory) in order to generate unexpected characters and plots. “Comics” Field Trip and Lectures at the National University of Singapore (Dec. 2017)

It was an honor and a pleasure to visit the prestigious National University of Singapore  with khun Cue and 15 junior students in the International Program of Communication Management (Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University), and to give a short lecture on the development of Thai Comics during the first half of the 20th century. Selection of Thai Comics Art for the “Mangasia: Wonderlands of Asian Comics” International Exhibition

Thai Comics (comic books & rare original artworks) are on display at the Mangasia: Wonderlands of Asian Comics exhibition, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome, Italy. Curated by Paul Gravett and a team of over twenty advisors (in which yours truly served as ‘advisor on Thai Comics’), and developed by The Barbican Centre, the 5-year world-touring exhibition presents the largest ever selection of original artworks from Asian comics. Round Table “Female Voices in Comics Art: Sharing Perspectives from Thailand, Spain, Japan and the U.S.A.” (March 2017)

The round table “Female Voices in Comics Art: Sharing Perspectives from Thailand, Spain, Japan and the U.S.A.” was held during the HeForShe Arts Week Bangkok (UN Women for Asia and the Pacific) in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in Bangkok (Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación de España). I was a rich, meaningful and cheerful talk with an amazing panel composed of Thai artist Tunlaya Dunn, Thai-American artist Kathy MacLeod, Spanish artist Carla Berrocal (also curator of the PRESENTES exhibition, and my Thai colleague & Manga scholar Aj. Exhibition “Traumics: a Medium of Fragments for a Shattered Mind”, Small Press Publishing & Master Classes with various Thai & European Guests (Jan-Apr 2017)

Four months of intensive work on various comics-related and meaningful projects carried out by the students of the “Managing Creativity for Communicative Innovation” course. “When Manga, Franco-Belgian and American Comics Collide; Or the Genesis of Thai Alternative Comics”; a lecture at Gakushuin University, Tokyo (Dec. 2016)

During our 5-day field trip in Tokyo with coordinator P’Pum and 17 students of the Faculty of Communication Arts (International Program, Chulalongkorn University), we were welcomed by the prestigious Gakushuin University (Tokyo, Japan) to hold a lecture on the History of Thai Comics. Collective and experimental Workshop: “THE THAI LOOP” (June 23, 2015)

The Thai Loop was a workshop held on June 23, 2015 as part of the activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Communication Arts at Chulalongkorn University. The workshop aimed at the creation of an exquisite corpse, based on the constrained exercise La Boucle/The Loop developed by the ChiFouMi Association, with 17 participants, whether professional Thai cartoonists or enthusiasts.
